Barbering 3
Welcome to Barbering 3, the final course in a three-part series that prepares you to become a licensed barber in California.
This 300-hour capstone course is where skill meets mastery. Students in Barbering 3 deepen their knowledge, refine advanced techniques, and gain the real-world readiness required to pass the California State Board exam and thrive in today’s professional barbering industry.
The curriculum builds upon everything learned in earlier courses. Students explore complex procedures in haircutting, hair coloring and bleaching, permanent waving, chemical straightening, thermal and wet hairstyling, and professional shaves. They also study the science behind the craft—diving into chemistry, electricity, anatomy, and bacteriology—to understand how and why techniques work at a deeper level.
Health and safety take center stage, with rigorous training in sanitation, hazardous substances, and disease prevention. Students must pass safety evaluations with 100% accuracy and demonstrate proficiency across all practical and written exams with at least an 80% score.
But Barbering 3 goes beyond the chair. It covers entrepreneurship, shop management, salesmanship, and employability skills. Students learn how to open a shop, manage business operations, build customer relationships, market services, and prepare resumes and job applications. By course end, students will have completed mock interviews, practiced professional communication, and created a career plan.
Instruction includes lectures, hands-on demonstrations, live model practice, and multimedia resources. Every unit is designed to simulate real-world scenarios and reinforce career-ready habits—like teamwork, flexibility, ethics, and innovation.
With Barbering 3, you're not just preparing to pass the exam—you’re preparing to build a successful, sustainable career in a dynamic, high-demand industry. This is your final step toward becoming a licensed professional barber.
